IAB underscores the importance of ensuring adequate conditions for journalistic work in Argentina

The International Association of Broadcasting (IAB) is closely following recent developments regarding restrictions on access for accredited journalists to the Government House of the Argentine Republic.

Measures adopted by public authorities, in order to safeguard institutional order, should seek to be exceptional, proportionate and compatible with the exercise of journalistic work.

In this regard, IAB emphasizes that journalists’ access to official sources and the ability to carry out their work under adequate conditions are essential elements for institutional transparency, the public’s right to be informed, and the strengthening of the democratic system.

IAB trusts that mechanisms for dialogue will be promoted to reconcile the operational needs of the authorities with full respect for freedom of expression and the work of the media.
